Kolkata, Nov 19, 2012 (Washington Bangla Radio) Arnab Ghosh is stepping into the world of Indian Tollywood Kolkata Bangla Movies as a director with his debut Bengali feature film ‘Kanchenjunga Express’. The Kolkata-based businessman who owns two popular night clubs in the city - Xrong Place on Sarat Bose Road and Club 69 off the Bypass - is also producing the film.
Mumtaz Sorcar (WBRi Interview) will be seen in a central role of Nandini in the story of the movie - an NGO worker. She is a soft-hearted and simple girl without any complexities. Due to unexpected turns of events in her life she gets married and re-married to three different men at different stages of her life. The film is about the different situations she has to face and how she handles the stressful situations.
Arnab Ghosh is also the writer of the story of the film. In this film he is expected to show vividly the evil of domestic violence on women that is largely prevalent in India.
In the plot of the women centric film, another women protagonist with a completely contrasting character to that of Nandini will also be seen. This role is being played by Jaya Seal Ghosh whose character will be seen as a strong and independent woman who has seen a lot in her life. Her character in the film has gone through many hard situations and those difficult times have made her strong and seasoned. She also does not trust anyone after deceptions she has faced throughout her life.
Jaya is not new to such roles. She was seen in similar roles in some other films. Prithibi Amakey Chai directed by Raj Mukherjee and Katakuti by Premangshu Roy are two such films where Jaya played tough and strong-willed women.
Arnab's film is titled ‘Kanchenjunga Express’ as the film starts with a conversation between the characters of Jaya and her co-passenger who is a Police officer. Jaya narrates to him the story of Nandini and it will be shown in flashbacks. The role of the police officer is being played by Sabyasachi Chakrabarty. The film also stars Bratya Basu, Rajatava Dutta, Kanchan Mallick and Anshuman Dutta. Two newcomers Mrinal and Debadrita have been roped in among the cast.
According to reports, Bengali rockstar Rupam Islam will do a cameo in the film, playing himself in a sequence where Nandini is going to win a beauty contest in college.
The music of the film is going to be composed by Souvik Gupta. Elite singers like Rupam Islam, Kunal Ganjawala and Usha Uthup will lend their voices for the songs of the film.
Mumtaz Sorcar is taking her career graph higher at a fast rate. After a highly appreciated performance in the film ‘Bhooter Bhabisyat’ she has grabbed meaty roles in many prestigious projects, including ‘Jole Jongole’ by Nitish Roy, ‘Meghe Dhakla Tara’ by Kamaleshwar Mukherjee are some of them. This film will surely add another dimension to her profile.
