Written by Shanker Ramakrishnan, director Santosh Sivan's Malayalam language Indian feature film Urumi features a sterling star cast of  Prithviraj, Genelia d' Souza, Robin Pratt, Prabhu Deva, Vidya Balan, Tabu, Arya, Nithya Menon, Amol Gupte, Ankur Sharma, Jagathy Sreekumar, Alex Onell and others.

Set in the 16th century, the film portrays the life of a warrior hero Chirakkal Kelu Nayanar (played by Prithviraj) of Kerala who aspired to kill Dom Vasco da Gama (Robin Pratt), the Portugese Viceroy. Actress Genelia d'Souza plays a Muslim warrior princess Arakkal Ayesha belonging to the famed matriarchal Arakkal royal family of Kannur City, Kerala who controlled parts of the Kerala coast and Lakshadweep island. Actress Vidya Balan plays Makkom - a goddess.

Kelu Nayanar navigates the semi-mythological landscape and manages to put up a real challenge to the foreign occupiers.

Urumi had a huge budget and is produced by Shaji Natesan, Santosh Sivan and Prithviraj. The film released in theaters in India on March 31, 2011. Watch the trailer via You Tube.
