Calcutta, Nov 18, 2011 (Washington Bangla Radio / Penning Creations) Having tasted success with movies like Minister Fatakeshto, Golmaal, Takkar and many more, Swapan Saha, the veteran director from our very own tinsel town is all set to entertain gen Y with his latest offering Best Friend. Now, with English title like this how does the director seem to justify his venture? Quite simple, very interestingly he puts forward his logic that the term ‘best friend’ is commonly used among the masses which simply isn’t the criteria to judge the movie, which will be a thoroughly commercial movie.

Swapan Saha has dabbled with various genres of movies and his latest Best Friend has raised the expectation of the audience that loves his movies. The film has a bunch of talented new faces like Mainak, Sujjoy, Biswajit and Priyanka Ghosh and a few films old actress Priyanka Sarkar, who has tried their best to catch the fancy of the audience. Mainak who has earlier appeared in a reality show and some mega serials, is all praises for the director who has helped him hone his acting prowess on the big screen.

The film, as it may sound, may bear uncanny similarity to 3 idiots but it is vehemently denied by the director and the crew. It surrounds three best friends who brave all odds together till love bumps on to them one fine day! Hence, the action sets in with Konko, Piku and Raj played by Mainak, Biswajit and Sujoy respectively, with the leading ladies played by Priyanka Sarkar and the debutante, Priyanka Ghosh. As the plot unfolds, other characters played by the popular comedian, Subhashish Mukhopadhyay and Ranjan Bhattacharjee, also pitch in to add to story, which goes just a little haywire in some parts. The characters break into a song and dance even at a wink, something that could have been avoided for the sake of the film itself!

Nonetheless, something worth appreciable are the picturesque locations captured in Digha that may bring some relief during this ever-so-drab drama. Talking about the acting skills, the fresh faces make an evident attempt to deliver. Ashok Bhadra is the man who created the music in the movie that also has Kunal Ganjawala lending his voice to one. The screenplay of the movie written by Manjil Banerjee runs on the beaten track of boy-meet-girl kind of romantic comedy.

This movie has the ingredients to cater only to some sections of the masses but to the general audience?..well, we doubt! Coming from an expert director like Swapan Saha who tried to break away from his regular family sagas, this movie does not seem to be as promising as expected.
