Petrol prices to rise by Rs.1.82 per litre

New Delhi, Nov 3 (IBNS): Petrol would cost more from Thursday midnight as state-owned oil companies have decided to increase the price by Rs.1.82 per litre.

Thursday's hike was the fifth time petrol prices were increased since Dec 2010.

Earlier, the state-run oil companies had increased the price of petrol by Rs. 3.14 per litre on Sept 16.

The Petroleum Minister had said that the oil firms would take decision on increasing the price of deregulated commodity.

The government had deregulated oil from price control in June last year.  However,  the retail rates did not move in line with the cost as high inflation made the oil companies to take suggestions from oil ministry before taking steps of revising rates.

Meanwhile, the loss on petrol was Rs. 1.50 per litre and with the addition of the local levies the the increase in the retail price touched Rs. 1.82 per litre.

State-run oil firms in Sept had raised petrol prices by Rs 3.14, due to a weakening rupee that made crude imports costlier.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Sushma Swaraj tweeted: "Petrol price hiked again - another blow to the common man from an insensitive Government."

After the increase in price from Thursday midnight, petrol will cost Rs. 68.66 in Delhi, Rs. 71.98 in Kolkata, Rs. 73.71 in Mumbai, Rs. 75.64 in Bangalore and Rs. 71.16 in Chennai.
