Kolkata, October 3 (Washington Bangla Radio): ‘Rahmanishq’, i.e. the A.R. Rahman’s India road tour kickstarted in Kolkata with a concert which produced an unbelievable visual.  Rahmanishq is featuring some of the leading singers from the country along with choreographers from international destinations. They performed on a panoramic stage decorated with stunning visuals. Rahmanishq gifted the audience the magical fusion of music which was highly improvised with the most advanced technologies.

The stage was set for the Mozart of Madras. A flash of light struck the stage almost blinding the audience. The man with dual Oscars (both for his contribution to Slumdog Millionare) stepped on the stage and welcomed everybody with his polite gestures which was replied with deafening applause. The background music of the popular track Dil Se started playing and a few moments later the magical voice of Rahman ripped through the stadium. The audience was taken into a trance and the bluish aura that had covered the venue made it look no less than a dream.

Along with Rahman, singers like Javed Ali, Shweta Pandit, Neeti Mohan, Harshadeep Kaur, Sukhwinder Singh and others are part of the entourage. They too performed at their best and increased the symphonic graph of the atmosphere. Javed Ali looked forward to meet every bit of expectation that his presence creates among audience. He performed some well chosen sound tracks which included tracks of Ranjhaana, Rockstar and Jodha Akbar. His performance was accompanied with amazing choreography as a team of dancers sizzled in traditional Indian dresses. While bumping into Javed Ali at the back stage WBRi asked him about his experience in Kolkata. He told WBRi “It’s a great feeling which I cannot describe. I have worked in Kolkata earlier and I love this city. But being a part of Rahmanishq is really great. It feels nice to perform with A.R.Rahman sir and I hope Kolkatans will feel that Rahmanishq is the best musical concert they have ever witnessed.”

Harshadeep Kaur mesmerized everybody even before she started singing. Her stunning outfit did that before her songs took it to a few levels further. Dressed in a jet black patiala coat which bears a symbolism of Sufi music and a pagdi on her head she increased the zeal among the audience with her songs. Her performance on the song “Heer” from Shah Rukh Khan Katrina Starrer movie Jab Tak Hai Jaan was really an aural treat. WBRi got an opportunity to have a brief conversation with her backstage. When asked about her feelings while performing at Kolkata, she told us with a broad smile “It’s a wonderful experience to be here at Salt Lake stadium. I am thrilled with the sweet receptions of the Bengalis. Today’s turnout was really awesome and I loved it.” While being asked about A.R.Rahman she smiled again and said “I don’t have words to express his charisma...”

The stage was already on fire with so many popular numbers being performed by musical geniuses back to back on it. But there was more left for the audience as Rahman showcased his talent with different genre of music. He juggled with variety of tracks and presented the tunes from ‘Pray for me brother’, ‘Jiya re jiya’, ‘kwaja mere kwaja’ ‘Rockstar, dil se, taal and many others, each one completely different from others. The concert seemed to have hardly any draw backs, musicians to dancers to singers and every minute detailing was executed with utmost care.

The cute and sizzling Neeti Mohan rocked the stage with her Bengali diction. She screamed “Kemon acho Kolkata. Apnader sobai ke saradiyor suvecha.” These Bengali words were enough to get the thrill among the audience. The base guitar strumming started along with the enthusiastic vibrations of audience and she performed on the song ‘Jiya re jiya re’ from ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan.’ She danced with the backup dancers with full energy. The whole audience grooved to the tunes of the song. WBRi caught Neeti back stage and asked her about her relation to Kolkata, she told that “As I told you earlier, I went to my grandmother’s house in Bhowanipore, I met her and had some kheer and I am glad to be here for Rahmanishq. Rahman Sir’s Rahmanishq is going to be the best, you will witness and hope everybody will like it.” Surprisingly her cute and sweet sister Sakti Mohan known for her dancing was also present at that moment. She looked pretty in hear western corporate attire.
