Raja Mukherjee

Raja Mukherjee has rediscovered his love for Bangla Poetry recitation after retiring from an illustrious professional career. Recitation is a passion he had at 25 - Tagore, Nazrul and Sukanta his favourites. "Now, all of a sudden, 40 long years of service in a steel plant seems to have vanished", says Mukherjee.

Raja Mukherjee was born in Burdwan district of West Bengal and moved to Naihati from where he completed his schooling. After his science degree from Calcutta University, he joined Bhilai Steel Plant as a trainee and retired at a senior management role in 2001.

His love for recitation and drama started during initial college days and continued for about 15 years in Bhilai, during which he travelled across the country along with his cultural group “Prantik” and other associations. The pressures of work and family commitments finally caught up and drew him away from his cultural interests.

Now, after about 40 years, Raja Mukherjee has started back again and is trying to use the internet as a medium to expose the current generation to some of the great works in Bangla literature. He posts recitations daily on his facebook page  facebook.com/rajamukherjeepoetry which is fast gaining popularity.
