Dear U.S. citizens:

We bring this message to your attention so you can carefully consider the information it contains.  Please pass along the information below to the U.S. citizens in your area.  Thank you for your cooperation.

Don’t Forget to Vote! It’s Not Too Late to Submit Your Ballot!

The 2010 general elections are scheduled for Tuesday, November 2.  Overseas voters can still submit ballots through email or with an emergency Federal Write-in Ballot.

Voting by Email:

Check the Federal Voting Assistance Program (FVAP) website to see if your state accepts emailed ballots at http://www.fvap.gov/map.html. The email address for your local election official is found at http://www.fvap.gov/shortcuts/wheresendfpca.htmlDo not send electronic ballots to the U.S. Embassy or Consulate email address.

Requesting an Emergency Ballot
If you cannot submit your ballot electronically, or if you requested but have not received your absentee ballot, complete and submit a Federal Write-In Absentee Ballot (FWAB) – also known as an "emergency ballot.” The ballot is available online at http://www.fvap.gov/resources/media/fwab.pdf.  You may also request an emergency ballot from the U.S. Embassy/Consulate.  The Voting Assistance Officer can answer your questions regarding the FWAB at KolkataACS@state.gov.

If your regular absentee ballot arrives after you have submitted an emergency ballot, don’t worry.  Just fill out the regular ballot and mail it back as you normally would.  Your emergency ballot will only be counted if your regular ballot doesn’t reach your local election officials by your state’s ballot receipt deadline.  Proper submission of both ballots will not invalidate your vote or result in two votes being cast.

The U.S. Department of State has published general information on overseas voting at http://www.travel.state.gov/travel/living/overseas_voting/overseas_voting_4754.html. New regulations for overseas voting are in effect for 2010.  Overseas voters are encouraged to send in a new registration/ballot request form every election year and whenever you change your name, address, or email address.

For additional information, please refer to “A Safe Trip Abroad” found at http://travel.state.gov Americans living or traveling in India are encouraged to register with the Consulate through the State Department’s travel registration website https://travelregistration.state.gov.  The American Citizen Services of the U.S. Consulate in Kolkata is located at 5/1 Ho Chi Minh Sarani, Kolkata, West Bengal, India 700 071.  Telephone: 91-33-3984-2400 Extn 2443, fax: 91-33-2282-2335.
