Kolkata Bangla Band KAYA - Folk Rock Fusion

Germantown, Maryland, Oct 17, 2010 (Washington Bangla Radio) The popular and award-winning music band KAYA from Kolkata performed live at the annual Durga Puja festival organized by Sanskriti of Washington DC Metropolitan area to a full auditorium at Quince Orchard High School in Gaithersburg, Maryland on October 16, 2010.

Kaya is the winner of BIG Bangla Rock/Pop song of the year at IDEA BIG BANGLA MUSIC AWARDS held at Science City auditorium, Kolkata on Aug 13th, 2010. KAYA also composed and performed the music in Bappaditya Bandopadhyay's National Award winning film HOUSEFULL (2009) in which playback singer NILANJANA SARKAR received the best playback singer (female) award.

Sanskriti is one of oldest and highly respected Bengali cultural organizations in the United States, acclaimed for it's organizing abilities including hosting the best North American Bengali Conference (NABC) ever in 2004 - a feat that is expected widely to be surpassed by Sanskriti's organization of NABC 2011 once again.

The tunes of KAYA float on melody and rhythm, synthesizing the rich lyrics. The Music of KAYA spreads the flavor of life, blending flute tunes with the strumming of guitars, rhythm of ‘Madol’ into the deep beats of the Drums. KAYA’s music is a magical amalgamation of Folk and Fusion - a unique quality that tells a tale of real life with a great listening pleasure.

The rich variance in the compositions of KAYA evolved from the Mother Nature, infusing nature and life into the world of music. The band offers a beam of songs composed of reality and dreams of life and set to touch down the hearts of mass and class, young and old.

Kaya are:

Arindam – Bass, Lyrics: Started learning Jazz under Kingshuk Dasgupta followed by Blues and Rocks from Amit Dutta. Besides learning fusion music from David Jackson, Arindam learned Jazz from Cariton Kitto and performed worldwide.

Subir – Flute: Started his musical career with Flute under the famous Pt. Debaprosad Bandhopadhyay. The Gold Medalist Subir was placed First Class First from the Instrumental Department of Rabindra Bharati University.

Subhasis – Percussion: Started learning drup playing under the tutelage of the Great Drum Player, Amal Roy. Turned into a professional drum player since 1992 and performed in India and abroad.

Raju – Lead Guitar: Started learning under Carlton Kitto and Benu Chatterjee. Raju, the son of famous music director Durbadal Chatterjee, has experienced of playing music under some of the noted music directors of Kolkata.

Archan – Vocals: Started learning from his childhood from Abhijit Bandopadhyay and Ajay Das. He received HMV Talent Hunt Award. Archan has done many stage shows throughout India.
