Dance with the stars of the NCPA Nakshatra Dance Festival

Mumbai, Maharashtra, October 7, 2010 /Washington Bangla Radio - India PRwire/ -- India's premier artistes of high renown - Alarmel Valli, Ayona Bhadhuri, Kanak Rele, Prateesha Suresh - will come together on one platform to strike awe amongst the audience with their spell binding performances! The National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA), India's premier arts and culture institution presents one of the most captivating dance celebrations, the NCPA Nakshatra Dance Festival this October. Scheduled to commence from 4th to 15th October at the NCPA, Mumbaikars will be privy to an aural and visual treat of four spectacular performances, two workshops on various dance forms and a dance lecture.

An authentic extravagance to look forward to for dance enthusiasts, the festival will feature Kanak Rele and her Nalanda Troupe who will present Mohiniattam, the Lyrical Dance followed by Ayona Bhaduri, Odissi titled Chaturvarna on 6th October. Alarmel Valli, India's talented performer will present 'Only Until the Light Fades - Love in Dance and Poetry, an exploration of love, based on the poetry of Arundhathi Subramaniam while Prateesha Suresh and troupe brings in a touch of East India with Sattriya, the classical dance of Assam, in a production titled Divyaleela on 9th October.

Commenting on the initiative, Ms. Amrita Lahiri, Head - Programming (Dance), NCPA, said, "The NCPA is known to present some of the best dance performances in India. Hence it is no surprise that our audiences expect only the excellent from us. With this dazzling festival, we aim to meet that expectation; to enthral and excite our audience. Each of the dancers invited by the NCPA to participate in the festival are either already established dancers who have received world-wide critical acclaim or are the rising stars on the horizon".

From 4th to 9th October, the 'Joy of Movement Workshop' will be hosted. This will be a one week fun introductory workshop on classical dance forms of India such as Bharat Natyam, Mohiniattam, Kuchipudi and Odissi. For the first time, the NCPA is set to celebrate a new relationship between the parent and the child, that of classmates from 9th to 10th October with the 'Parent - Child Introductory Dance Workshop'. As a part of its Conversation with Maestros series, a lecture titled, 'Conversation with dance choreographer Rajika Puri' will be organised on 14th October.

The NCPA Nakshatra Dance Festival will create a galaxy of sorts, with India's finest dancers glistening across the stage. This awe-inspiring dance festival holds a twinkling promise in store for all dance aficionados. The NCPA invites one and all to come, experience and witness one of the most culturally insightful and artistic events of the year.
