Aimeé Displays Warm Mexican Passion in Beyond Borders

New York, NY, Oct 4, 2010 (Washington Bangla Radio / prurgent) Aimeé Perez brings the warmth and passion of Mexico, her native land, to her realist and emotive human portraits. This self-taught artist begins by recording her subject in pencil on canvas, meticulously conveying the minute details of his or her features, expression, and surroundings. She then renders this scene in color, applying a thin layer of oil paint with small brushes, using light and shadow to create a lifelike image of her subject at a given moment. Aimeé strives to “give form . . . to something ambitious—that seal that each of us have that makes us what we are, that ‘something’ that gives importance to a piece of time.” The resulting works allow glimpses into the lives of her subjects and connections with their intimate thoughts and emotions, thus prompting viewers to ponder, to think, to feel.

Born in Leon, Guanajuato, in central Mexico, Aimeé currently lives and works in Vancouver, British Columbia.
