Passionate speeches, a rapt audience, reverberations of an auspicious conch, the sound of ancient Sanskrit verses, a unique idol of Lord Ganesh on display and an exhibition of objects attacked by ghosts were just some of the highlights of the second Hinduism Summit held in Chicago on Nija Vaishakh Krushna Ashtami 5112 (5 June 2010) ! The Summit was held by the Forum for Hindu Awakening (FHA) and the Lake County Hindu Temple. Around 100 attendees in person and 200 attendees online took the benefit of this event.

Washington Bangla Radio, June 3, 2010: Amongst the selected speakers for the second Hinduism Summit in Chicago there is renowned human rights activist and president of Forcefield, Dr. Richard Benkin, noted Hindu scholar of Seven Stars foundation, Shri. Dileep Thatte and regional vice-president of the Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh (HSS), Shri. Shrinarayan Chandak. Some of the topics to be presented at the summit include the Human rights case of the Bangladeshi Hindus, Misconceptions about Hinduism (Sanaatan Dharma) and the Seven Stars’ approach, and the Anti-Hindu bias in the media.

The Chicago Hinduism Summit or Hindu Dharma Sabha is being organized by charitable organizations, including the Hindu Temple of Lake County and Forum for Hindu Awakening (FHA). It is receiving support and blessings from noteworthy Hindu and spiritual leaders, organizations and activists from all over the world. It hopes to unite everyone interested in Hinduism, to preserve Hinduism for its unique spiritual scientific basis that holds out concrete solutions for many of the problems rampant in society today.

Shashika Mooruth - Bhakti Bhajan Audio SongsShashika Mooruth was born and educated in the Republic of South Africa. Till the age of 24 she was untrained yet would sing with ease and skill. In her childhood, she performed in many local concerts around South Africa. At the age of 12 her talent was recognized by the legendary Kishore Kumar who invited her to sing in his concert in Durban, South Africa. Kishore-da labeled her as a singer ‘born in the wrong country’ and advised her father to send her to Bombay to train and become a playback singer! Shashika has also accompanied Shri Mahendra Kapoor and Pandit Hrdayanath Mangeshkar on stage.

A science graduate from University of South Africa, Shashika has also studied Speech and Drama at Trinity College of Music, London and the South African Guild of Speech and Drama Teachers’ Association.

Shashika Mooruth - Bhakti Bhajan Live Online RadioIn 1987 she enrolled for the degree course in Hindustani Music at the Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan with the intention of returning to South Africa to teach music, but soon realized the vastness of the music field and hence settled in India permanently.

In 1995, she was honored at the World Hindu Conference in South Africa for her contribution to Indian music.

She has travelled several times to twenty five countries with her devotional music and is always in demand for her  unique presentation style.

Says Shashika, “I love to experiment with different styles and therefore on the commercial front I have rendered my voice in devotional, pop, filmi, semi-classical and even techno compositions. Last year I decided to dedicate more time to commercial music in Mumbai and hence came my first song in Hindi cinema. I penned and recorded a piece in Western voice for a title song by Adnan Sami for a film titled Ek Second Jo Zindagi Badal De with music by Saawan Kumar Saawan. I hope to make a contribution to the music world in this lifetime.”
