Bengali actress Rupanjana Mitra talks about her films and TV shows : Interview

[Rupanjana Mitra]Germantown, MD, March 9, 2011 (Washington Bangla Radio) On behalf of WBRi, Soumitra Talukdar talks to Bengali actress Rupanjana Mitra in an intimate and exclusive video interview.

Daughter of Gautam and Sukla Mitra (WBRi nterview), Rupanjana is working in the television and film fraternity since the year 2000. The actress made her debut in the television serial ‘Beauty Parlor’, and then played Binodini in the TV serial ‘Chokher Bali’.

Since 2000, Rupanjana has portrayed more than 60 characters in various television serials, telefilms and films, and has anchored many game shows for popular television channels (ETV Bangla, ZEE Bangla, Rupashi Bangla, STAR Jalsha and more).

Rupanjana has worked with almost all the eminent directors of the industry, and  with all reputed production houses of the Bengali Television and Film industry (popularly known as Tollywood) that includes Ravi Ojha Productions, Shree Venkatesh Films, Jishu Dasgupta Productions, T Sarkar Productions, Balaji and many more.

The actress does not want to be a part of the rat-race and try for the numero uno spot among the stars. She believes in her talent and showcases her skills, and is happy as long as she can keep the artiste within her alive with positive thoughts.

She has enjoyed hosting game shows like Shoshur Bari Bonam Baper Bari, Utsaber Shera Paribar, Nacho To Dekhi and more.

The emergence of Samadarshi as an actor is not a coincidence - Samadarshi has always been passionate about acting. Pursuing his keen interest and passion early on, Samadarshi played a nuymber of roles on stage in theater productions, as well as Television shows for a couple of months. Soon, he appeared in a hugely competitve selection test for an acting course at the renowned Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) in Pune. This course was shut down in 1976 but was revived in 2004, and Samadarshi is glad he was selected.

His company Purple Music, one of the leading music companies in Kolkata, has acquired the audio rights of 52 Bengali films in the year 2009-10.This lead the partners of the music company to think of venturing into production of films. In 2010 they decided to go for their first film project and the announcement of this was made on 24th of July 2010.

About his childhood /teenage days and entry into films:

"I was born in a remote village of Rajasthan; my father was a doctor who was keen on social service and had moved to this part of the country to serve the people and his country. I grew up with nature, amid fields, sands, horse and camel rides. Kites and water from the wells was a part of life….it was a very different kind of childhood from all other Bengali boys of my age. When I was ready for college, I wanted to study science and took admission in Maharana Bhopal College of Udaipur. The projection room of the college was a big draw for all the students where films were screened. When a few 18 year olds met, the debate on films would reach its height. A friend had challenged me to make a film myself and then prove my arguments ...
