Nevada Welcomes New Year with Multi-Faith Prayers

In a remarkable interfaith gesture, various religions got together in Reno (Nevada, USA) to celebrate the ringing in of the New Year at midnight in a unique and divine manner, away from the glitter of the casinos and sending a message of unity to the world.

Some of the religious leaders & others who participated in this Service, from left to right, are: ElizaBeth Webb Beyer, James Kosko, Monique Jacobs, Brian E. Melendez, Kaitie R. Lighthart, Shelley L. A Hindu temple in Palatine in Cook County in Illinois has reportedly been approved.

It consists of approximately 0.78 acres and Swaminarayan Satsang Mandal of Chicago, a non-profit organization whose goal is “To Become Ideal Satsangi”, is listed among the owners. Currently; the Mandal conducts kirtan, satsang, aarti, etc.; besides Gujarati and spirituality classes for kids/youth; on Sundays in Schaumburg, reports suggest.

Wheaton College in Illinois has declined to “organize open and honest debate of world-level religious scholars/leaders” on the topic of “Do we all worship the same God?”, as urged by distinguished religious statesman Rajan Zed.

Wheaton President Dr. Philip Graham Ryken, in an email to Zed, wrote “at present we do not plan”, but thanked Zed for “this thoughtful suggestion and offer to help” and added “Wheaton College is grateful for your message”.

On December 15 Wheaton placed tenured Associate Professor of Political Science Dr. Larycia Alaine Hawkins (on faculty since 2007) on paid administrative leave because of “…her recently expressed views, including that Muslims and Christians worship the same God…”.
