Veena is one of the three celestial musical instruments, having references from Vedic times (along with the Flute and the Mridangam). The fact that Saraswati, the goddess of Art, is always identified with Veena, markedly symbolizes that music (synonymous with veena) has primary importance among all forms of fine arts.

New York, NY, February 28, 2013 (Washington Bangla Radio): Today, the Asian American Legal Defense and Education Fund (AALDEF) released detailed findings from its nonpartisan multilingual exit poll of 361 Asian American voters in Georgia in the November 2012 elections, the largest survey of its kind in the nation. The results indicated that Asian Americans are a growing segment of the electorate in Georgia, with a strong shift from Republican to Democrat in the 2012 elections.



Indian Railways Covers New Grounds

The total approximate earnings of Indian Railways on originating basis during 1st April to 31st December 2012 were Rs. 89906.46 crore compared to Rs. 75009.17 crore during the same period last year, registering an increase of 19.86 per cent. The total goods earnings have gone up from Rs. 49868.95 crore during 1st April – 31st December 2011 to Rs. 62413.41 crore during 1st April – 31st December 2012, registering an increase of 25.15 per cent. The total passenger revenue earnings during 1st April – 31st December 2012 were Rs. 23025.34 crore compared to Rs. 20999.01 crore during the same period last year, registering an increase of 9.65 per cent. In the calendar year 2012, Indian Railways has achieved scrap sale of Rs. 3903.84 crore till Nov. 2012. For the corresponding period in 2011 sale achieved by Railway was 3748.68 crore.

Online Reporting System of Mineral Transaction in India

New Delhi, July 13, 2012 (Washington Bangla Radio / PIB India) In its continues effort to bring more transparency the Mines Ministry has developed an On-Line Registration and Reporting System under rule 45 of MCDR, 1988 of mineral transaction to facilitate the submission of monthly returns of iron ore. The Minister of State Independent Charge Shri Dinsha J. Patel launched the first phase of the Online Reporting System of mineral transaction. The focus will be on submission of monthly returns for iron and manganese ore mines throughout the country. Other minerals would be covered by September 2012. In the present system of mineral administration, the onus of the mineral is with the State Governments. The Ministry has a limited authority except the administration of Mineral Conservation and Development Rules, 1988 (MCDR) through Indian Bureau of Mines. Now the reporting system has been developed to facilitate in submitting the returns on-line. Indian Bureau of Mines will allot and record registration numbers, which will be used for all reporting and correspondence connected to mining, trading, stocking, end use or export of mineral. All the State Government will be able to access the system to check the data reported in the returns and can initiate action in case of wrong reporting of data, evasion of royalty, etc.
