Only one “Asia-focused” entry won at Oscars

There were no nominations for “Made in Asia” films at 82nd Academy Awards given in Hollywood (USA) on March seven, and out of four films nominated with Asia-focused topics, only one (The Cove) was able to win.

“The Cove” (Louie Psihoyos), which won in “documentary feature” category, is an investigative-journalism style venture about animal abuse and human health issues revolving around dolphins in Japan.

Mar 4, 2010 (Washington Bangla Radio) Oscar winner A.R. Rahman (Slumdog Millionaire) will be taking his “Jai Ho” concert worldwide, starting June 11 from New York (USA) and ending in London (United Kingdom) on July 26, according to reports.
During this period, he will reportedly have live concerts in USA, Canada, Netherlands, France, Norway, and United Kingdom; covering the cities of New York, Atlantic City, Washington DC, Chicago, Detroit, Toronto, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Dallas, Houston, Amsterdam, Paris, Oslo, Glasgow, Manchester, and London. More concerts of this world tour will be announced in the future.

“Music4Peace Tour” will organize a “Hip-Hop Summit” in India in November, according to reports.

The “Music for Peace Tour Initiative” is a coalition of organizations and non-profits who have banded together to help bring “peace and harmony” to world. It is an attempt to bring social change “by uniting people through the universal language of music”, it is claimed.

Sylvester Stallone & Denise Richards nominated for “Kela” (Banana) awards for worst in Bollywood

Hollywood star Sylvester Stallone (Rocky) has been nominated for Hollywood Razzies equivalent “Golden Kela Awards” given annually for the worst performance in Bollywood.
American actress-model Denise Richards (The World is not enough) has also been nominated. Both of them are nominated for what is called “BAAWRA ho gaya hai ke Award” (Have you gone CRAZY Award) for performances in romantic comedy “Kambakkht Ishq” (Unfortunate Love). This film has been nominated for seven other awards, including worst film.
 In the “most atrocious lyrics award” category, Abbas Tyrewala has been nominated for "Chiggy Wiggy" from film “Blue”, which was performed by Australian actress-singer Kylie Minogue (Neighbours). Warner Bros “Chandni Chowk to China” has been nominated for seven “Golden Kela Awards”, including “worst film”.
Stallone has been nominated for 30 Razzies (and won eight), which is more than double than his nearest competitor Kevin Costner. Denise Richards has received Razzie for “worst supporting actress”.

Twelve Indian or India related films will form part of “28th San Francisco International Asian American Film Festival” (SFIAAFF) to be held from March 11 to 21.
It will include: Today’s Special (David Kaplan) [DVD], Love Aaj Kal (Imtiaz Ali) [DVD], Cooking With Stella (Dilip Mehta) [Blu-Ray DVD], Diana (Aleem Khan) [DVD], Scene 32 (Shambhavi Kaul) [DVD], Talentime (Yasmin Ahmad) [DVD], and Flying (Kirthi Nath) [Blu-Ray DVD]. Sangeet for 2009. Channel i broadcast the Award Ceremony live from
Hotel Sheraton Winter garden, Dhaka on January 12, 2010 at 7:30.

In the adjacent picture Roquaiya Hasina is seen receiving the award certificate and trophy from revered Tagore singers Ajit Roy and Mita Haque.
