With Bengali actor Bonny Sengupta (whose first film as an actor was Borbaad also directed by Raj Chakraborty) leading with the role of "Shibu" - a name the director goes by in real life with his close friends and family - the romance drama feature film introduced two new actresses Koushani Mukherjee and Swastika Dutta to the Tollywood silver screen. GHURI Bangla Movie Opens in Kolkata with a Sparkling Premiere

Kolkata, Dec 7 (Washington Bangla Radio): The premiere of Bengali film Ghuri (The Kite) written and directed by Riingo Banerjee was recently held in Nandan in the presence of cast and crew of the movie.

As reported by WBRi earlier, the film is based on Khaled Hossani’s award winning novel "The Kite Runner". The film was completed a few years ago and was produced to be broadcast on television. However, the director yearned for a commercial big screen release and roped in a financier for theatrical release on 6th December.

Siddhartha "Sid" Mallya, the Indian-American actor who grew up mostly in the UK, is seeing his film career fall all in place. Sid is currently completing his degree at The Royal Central School of Drama in London, and is over the moon about his debut film - Bengali film-maker Q's Brahman Naman that is not only premiering but also competing in the World Cinema dramatic competition section at the famed Sundance Film Festival in USA.

Bengalees worldwide are looking forward to continuation of Srijit Mukherji's fabulous success as a film-maker after Rajkahini with his just-announced next Zulfikar. According to reports, Zulfikar draws from two Shakespeare classics and the star cast will include top Kolkata Bangla movie actors DEV, Prosenjit Chatterjee, Jissu Sengupta, Parambrata, Ankush, Kanchan Mullik and Kaushik Sen among others.

The two works of inspiration are Julius Ceaser and Anthony and Cleopetra, both of which revolve round the Roman empire under Julius Ceaser. Both the works by the the bird of Avon have multiple female characters for which leading Tollywood actresses Paoli Dam, Nusrat Jahan and June Maliah have reportedly been roped in.

According to reports another surprise addition to the ensemble cast is Kyra Dutt, the Kolkata model who made her big Bollywood debut in Madhur Bhandarkar’s Calendar Girls.

Shree Venkatesh films have released the new video song "Maula Mere Maula" from Arshinagar (WBRi Film Preview) featutring Tollywood's highest paid hero Dev and Rittika Sen.

Aparna Sen will present Tollywood superstar Dev in "Arshinagar" (আর্শিনগর) which explores the dark and shady underworld of the land mafia, and features a return of the evergreen diva Waheeda Rehman to the silver screen. Dev will be seen as an aspiring rock star Rony of  the rock group "Garage Band", with Rittika Sen (of Raj Chakrabarty’s "Borbaad" fame) and Bonny Sengupta. Rittika's character Julekha Bagchi is derived from Shakespeare's Juliet.

Kolkata, November 29, 2015 (Washington Bangla Radio): ‘Postmaster’, a Bengali movie based on Tagore's eponymous short story, is all set to be screened  in the prestigious Delhi International Film Festival this year. The film will participate in the competitive section of the festival along with the two other Bengali movies: the much acclaimed  "Rajkahini" by Srijit Mukherji, and the highly appreciated by both the national and international viewers and winner of quite a few prestigious international film awards "Teenkahon" by Bauddhayan Mukherjee. The festival will be held from 5th to 10th December 2015.

Debutant writer, director and composer Srijon Bardhan seemed very excited about the selection of his film  in the Delhi film festival. He said, “Romance is universal and love-life blooms in nature in its own course; there is no limiting boundary to regulate it. I have shown it in my film through the characters of Nanda Sen and Ratna.”

The director is also the story-writer and music composer of the film. He narrates a synopsis of Postmaster to WBRi in his own words.
