Mumbai,
India, 20th Sep 2010 (Washington Bangla Radio USA) : It’s ironical that
amongst songs created by RD Burman, Beeti Na Bitai Raina (Parichay
’72), Humen Tumse Pyaar Kitna (Kudrat ’81), Do Naina Ek Kahani (Masoom
’82) and Mera Kuchch Samaan (Ijaazat ’87) fetched Bhupinder, Lata
mangeshkar, Parveen Sultaana, Aarti Mukherjee, Gulzar and Asha Bhosle
the National Awards but RD Burman missed out each time.
The story
almost continues when, on this occasion (National Awards 2010,
Brahmanand S Siingh, has bagged the National Award for Pancham Unmixed, a
film made on RD Burman … however, with a difference.
(“Awarded to
Brahmanand S Siingh for an engaging compilation of the tumultuous
journey of a legendary and iconic music composer of Indian Film Industry
whose music lives on.”)
As
Brahmanand himself has posted on Facebook and other platforms, amidst
accolades (that the film has kept on receiving even otherwise):
“It's
interesting ... each time Panchamda's creation got a National Award,
it's always others who got it for singing or lyrics ... like Gulzar saab
had said once "kheer Pancham ne banaai ... aur hum sab usse khaa gaye
..." ... (I think when mera kuchch samman had gotten the National Award)
... Once again, it seems, I get the award on making a film about him
but he never got one himself.
