Gorumara elephant is now proud mother

Siliguri, Sep 3 (IBNS) Aman became the first captive elephant at Gorumara Reserve Forest in northern West Bengal to give birth to a 'healthy baby' Friday, wildlife officials here said.

The fifteen-year-old pachyderm was employed by the forest department since her arrival from Bankura district in south Bengal eight years ago. She has been working as 'kunki'.

“Never ever in my 21 years of international cricket, have I heard that bookies approached Indian players,” Tendulkar told reporters here.

Bareilly, Sept 3 (IBNS) The Uttar Pradesh Police on Friday suspended three cops for bashing a woman police officer, who was protesting extortion at a traffic checking in the district.

Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Kalpana Saxena, who is now recovering from her multiple wounds at a medical facility, was dragged by a car nearly a kilometre on Thursday by the fleeing policemen.

Patna, Sep 3 (IBNS): Reeling under the ongoing Maoist onslaught, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Friday summoned an all party meeting here on Saturday to elicit views on the hostage crisis which intensified after one of the abducted policemen was killed the day before.


"The chief minister has called an all-party meeting at the state secretariat here tomorrow [Saturday] to discuss the situation and evolve consensus on this issue," an official spokesman said.

Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada (USA) today, said that although European Parliament was slow to react in view of the recent France crackdown on Roma, but at least it was taking “step in the right direction”. Roma apartheid was very blatant all over Europe and its parliamentarians had a special responsibility to come up with the solution instead of watching Roma brothers and sisters suffer day after day.
